Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Depart on British Airways from your gateway city.

Day 2 Nairobi: Serena Hotel
Arrive into London in the morning and connect with your British Airways flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival into Nairobi, you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to your hotel. Nestled in the lush garden surroundings of Nairobi’s Central Park is the Nairobi Serena Hotel. Here you can enjoy quiet and peaceful moments away from the bustling city, and yet remain within walking distance. The superlative accommodation, excellent cuisine, impeccable service and luxurious facilities have all contributed to the Nairobi Serena acquiring the coveted status of being a member of “The Leading Hotels of the World.” The 190 rooms are all equipped with the necessary luxuries and facilities to ensure your every comfort. Extraordinary attention to detail is a hallmark. From the master light switch on the bedside table, bathroom telephone, double-glazing and quiet air-conditioners, to the fully stocked mini-bar fridge, hand crafted furniture and African works of art. There’s a compact electronic safe and remote satellite TV and 24 hour room service. While here, take advantage of the many different restaurants, swimming pool, pool bar or fitness center.

Day 3 Amboseli National Park: Tortillis Camp (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven to the airport. FLY from Nairobi to Amboseli. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in the environs of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro on the southern border of Kenya. At dusk, return to your camp. Tortillis Camp is a welcoming blend of rustic style and modern comfort. Named after the local Tortillis Acacia trees, the luxury tented camp is designed to make the international traveler feel comfortable in Africa. This new lodge is the brainchild of Stefano and Max Cheli and Liz Peacock who have made their reputation in high quality, tailored safaris for visitors seeking a personal view of Kenya. Guests at the camp will be transported off the beaten track to enjoy the camp’s totally unspoiled setting. Sheltered to the south by a grove of umbrella trees, it features unrivaled views of Africa’s spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro. The camp sits on the edge of the park itself, on the plains owned by the Maasai people. This unique setting provides the double advantage of ready access to the herds of game that live outside the park as well as game drives within the park itself. The camp offers 15 specially designed luxury tents. Each tent has an extra large semi-circular verandah allowing guest’s breathtaking views from the privacy of there own tents.

Day 4 Amboseli National Park: Tortillis Camp (BLD)
Enjoy some of the best game viewing in Africa on a morning and an afternoon game drive.

Day 5 Lewa Downs: Lewa Safari Camp (BLD)
After breakfast, FLY to the Nanyuki via Nairobi, where you will be met and driven to the camp. In the afternoon, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Lewa Downs is a 40,000 acre ranch, home to the Craig Family since 1924, as well as a diverse array of wildlife and some of Kenya’s most spectacular scenery. The lodge is a small cedar wood cottage, with a beautiful thatch roof and pine wood paneling housing modern, kitchens stores, fully stocked cash bar, reception, dining room and lounge — complete with log fireplace and plate glass windows overlooking a floodlit waterhole where black and white rhino, elephant and numerous other wildlife come to drink. The permanent tented accommodations are discrete and comfortable, placed on raised platforms and stone walls of local lava rock. These, along with the main buildings, are thatched with a beautiful woven papyrus. Spread a spacious 25.30 meters apart, each tent is fully serviced with electric lights, large firm twin beds and spring mattresses, writing table, luggage rack and traditional camp chairs, while the canvas, en-suite bathrooms have flush toilets, running hot and cold showers and vanity unit with mirror completes life’s necessities. The front doorway has two flaps, one of traditional canvas, the second made of heavy gauge “mosquito netting” giving the occupant the opportunity to sleep “with the main door open” thus enjoying the cool night air, the sounds of Africa and, of course, the starry African nights. Locally made woolen rugs, and a few miscellaneous soft furnishings finish the decor with a traditional “safari camp" atmosphere. The Lewa Downs Conservancy itself supports a myriad of plains game species, and perfectly adapted for the semi-desert environment. The thinly striped and endangered Grevy’s Zebra and the chocolate brown Reticulated Giraffe are common. The lance-like horned Beisa Oryx and the rare Greater Kudare are seasonal visitors. Gunther’s Dik Dik, with its huge nasal swellings, the giraffe-necked Gernia and the beautiful blue-legged Somali Ostrich are resident all year. The swamp has become a sanctuary in itself for the fascinating semi-aquatic Sitatunge antelope and its primary predator, the Leopard. Birdlife is equally rich with numerous species of Bustards Plovers, Coursers and birds of prey. At night, leopards are frequently encountered along with bush babies.

Day 6 Lewa Downs: Lewa Safari Camp (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of activities with walks and other activities in the reserve and rhino sanctuary.

Day 7 Mt. Kenya: Mt. Kenya Safari Club (BLD)
After breakfast, drive to the famous Mount Kenya Safari Club. Spend the afternoon taking advantage of the facilities in this luxurious club — tennis, golf, horse-back riding and much more. With its spectacular views across thickly forested slopes to the craggy peaks of majestic Mount Kenya, the Safari Club offers a unique blend of comfort, relaxation and adventure. Originally the retreat of movie star William Holden, Mount Kenya’s illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. Set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens, the Club recreates a mood of quiet elegance. Each room is luxuriously appointed and the Club’s facilities include a heated swimming pool, 9-hole golf course, horse-back riding, tennis court, putting green, sauna and beauty parlor, casino, disco, gift shops and boutiques, art gallery, trout fishing, day trips to Mount Kenya, game viewing platform, bush dinner on the river banks, nature walks, animal orphanage and more.

Day 8 Masai Mara National Park: Governors Tented Camp (BLD)
After breakfast, FLY to the Masai Mara. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive. Governors Camp was the first luxury tented camp to be established in Africa, set on a site reserved exclusively for the Colonial Governors of Kenya. It is situated in the heart of the best game viewing area of the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve on the banks of the meandering Mara River. Governor’s camp maintains an authentic safari atmosphere with all guest facilities under canvas, including luxurious en-suite bathrooms. It sets the highest standards of comfort, personalized service and good food. Breakfast and lunch is served on the banks of the Mara River. Drinks around the campfire and candlelit gourmet dinners are truly a remarkable experience.

Day 9 Masai Mara National Park: Governors Tented Camp (BLD)
Spend the day venturing deeper into the Mara with a morning game drive and an afternoon game drive. The Masai Mara is unrivaled in the abundance and variety of game. The vast plains are full of surprises — you may witness a kill by a big cat or playful lion cubs in the shade of an acacia tree alongside the dozing members of the pride.

Day 10 Departure (B)
After a morning game drive and breakfast, FLY to Nairobi. The rest of the day will be free to make your own arrangements, perhaps relaxing in your dayroom at the hotel or shopping for souvenirs to take home. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your British Airways departure flight.

Day 11 Arrive into London in the morning and connect with your flight to the USA.
