Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Depart USA on South African Airways from your choice of gateways.

Day 2 Cape Town: Victoria & Alfred Hotel
Arrive into Johannesburg and connect with your flight to Cape Town. Arrive into Cape Town, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to your hotel. Situated in the vibrant V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, the Victoria & Alfred Hotel boasts unrivalled views of Table Mountain and offers guests a memorable stay. The hotel is internationally renowned for the highest standards of service, attention to detail and the friendly atmosphere created by the staff. All 68 bedrooms enjoy unrivalled views of Table Mountain and Cape Town's working harbor or vibrant V&A Waterfront. Rooms are ultra large, superbly furnished and comfortably air-conditioned. Each has a separate shower, fully stocked private bar, king size bed and innovative luxury modern appointments, ensuring a comfortable stay. There are 34 Luxury Mountain and Harbor Facing Rooms and 34 Luxury Piazza/Courtyard Facing Rooms.

Day 3 Cape Town: Victoria & Alfred Hotel (BL)
Enjoy a full day private tour of the beautiful Cape Peninsular, as this is a private tour, flexibility is the key. Highlights of the tour will include time in Hout Bay, once a fishing community and now a thriving residential area, a drive over dramatic Chapman’s Peak (PROVIDED THAT IT IS OPEN) with a 200 meter drop on one side and a 200 meter rise on the other. Enjoy a visit to Fishoek beach the Jackass penguin colony at Boulders Beach just outside of Simonstown, Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Enjoy lunch at Black Marlin.  A camellia-decked garden leads into a beautiful old house with lovely views of False Bay for lazy days or evenings gorging on seafood.  The Black Marlin has an impressive wine list with sparkling wine by the glass and auction wines as features, and a menu boasting coconut prawn tempura, Knysna oysters, mussels in Madeira wine sauce, kingklip on the spit, seafood platters, crayfish thermidor, LM prawns and lubbers’ fare like ostrich steaks and carpetbagger fillet.  There are pasta dishes too. Lunch has been pre-paid, in some instances there may be a surcharge for certain dishes – drinks are not included. You will be arriving between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to allow for some flexibility.

Day 4 Cape Town: Victoria & Alfred Hotel (BL)
Enjoy a full day private tour of the famous Cape Winelands, as this is a private tour, flexibility is the key. Travel via the National Highway to Paarl. Continue to a family-run wine farm for wine tasting and visit of its vineyards. To Boschendal for wine tasting, and Stellenbosch. Tour of the village. Experience the unforgiving crags that rise up in a haze of splendor around these renowned Winelands with their range of award winning wines. Or, simply marvel at the majesty of it all. A rare find. Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon. Enjoy lunch at La Petite Ferme. This popular, family-run farmhouse restaurant, with miniscule working wine cellar, is always packed though enclosing the veranda has allowed for more tables in inclement weather and brings guests closer to the wrap-around view. Chef Lizette Crabtree is introducing new dishes like black mussels, fragrant with lemon grass and ginger; and meltingly tender individual servings of aubergine-coated slow-roasted lamb in garlic yoghurt sauce. Bestsellers are still home-smoked, boned trout with horseradish sauce, vegetarian quiches, pickled fish, aromatic bobotie and perennially popular 'plum crazy' dessert topped with meringue. The Wine list: Order the farms own wine it's made with the food in mind. Lunch has been pre-paid, in some instances there may be a surcharge for certain dishes – drinks are not included. You will be arriving between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to allow for some flexibility.

Day 5 Cape Town:
Victoria & Alfred Hotel (B)
You will have a full day at leisure to explore “The Mother City”, you may wish to visit the Irma Stern and SA Museum, take the ferry and tour to Robben Island, visit the Cape Townships, walk around the Cape Malay Quarter, and visit the many art galleries and more!!

Day 6 Private Game Reserve: Leopard Hills (BLD)
After breakfast, you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Nelspruit and connecting flight to Leopard Hills. Arrive into the Leopard Hills airstrip, where you will be met by a camp representative and driven to the lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive. The lodge is built on a hill overlooking a natural waterhole, the Perennial Sand River is a sanctuary for many bird species and host to wallowing Hippo’s and basking Crocodiles as it gently flows to the heartbeat of Africa not far from camp. Each of the 8 luxurious glass-fronted suites, complete with their own sundeck and rock plunge pool offer superb views of the African bushveld beyond, while air-conditioning and overhead fans provide welcome respite against the harsh African heat. The breath-taking romantic bathrooms, which include double indoor and outdoor showers, have windows which open to a glorious view of the passing cavalcade below. Enjoy the privacy of your suite and salute the timelessness of Africa over a drink from your fully-stocked mini bar. Or drift into a deep and peaceful sleep whilst enjoying a full body massage. Back in camp after our early morning and late afternoon/evening game drives, you will be spoilt by the highest standards of service and fine cuisine, all couched in a welcoming warm, friendly and fun-filled cellar brimming with racks of celebrated local and International wines. When the heat is on, cool down on the open air verandah, relax in the lounge with a drink, and when in Africa, do as the Africans do and sink below the refreshing surface of the swimming pool. The Library offers a setting of peace and tranquility, where you are welcome to browse through a large selection of literature and African Journals. In addition there is secluded alcove where an internet facility is available.

Day 7 Private Game Reserve:
Leopard Hills (BLD)
Enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive. A typical day consists of an early wake up call at approximately 5:30 am where you will be served tea, coffee and cookies in the Lodge before your start off on your early morning game drive. You will return to the lodge at approximately 10:00 am where you will enjoy a full breakfast. The rest of the morning is yours to enjoy catching up on your sleep, swimming in the pool, browsing in the curio shop or participating in a game walk. Lunch is served at around 1:00 pm. At 3:30 pm enjoy tea and coffee before setting out on your afternoon/evening game drive. You will return to the lodge at around 7:30 pm in time to get ready for dinner either in the lodge or the boma (a boma is a reed enclosed outdoor eating area. You will eat under a starry African night with the calls of the wild in the distance – a truly memorable event).

Day 8 Private Game Reserve: Leopard Hills (BLD)
Enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive.

Day 9 Johannesburg: Airport Sun Intercontinental (B)
After a morning game drive and some leisure time you will be driven to the airstrip for your flight to Johannesburg.  Arrive into Johannesburg, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to the hotel. Located 50 meters from the arrival and departure at Johannesburg International Airport. The hotel has 109 luxury guest rooms, 26 executive rooms, 2 executive suites, and 1 room for the disabled, 69 non-smoking rooms & 5 inter-leading rooms. Each room has air-conditioning, interactive TV System offering airline flight information, and satellite TV & pay movie channel. Each room also has direct dial telephone, voice mail, wake up call, modem connection, cell phone re-charger, express checkout, coffee & tea maker, hairdryer, minibar, attached bathroom with a separate shower and a separate closet. The hotel has a first class restaurant with an informal atmosphere, offering modern cuisine from breakfast through to late night a la carte dinning. The cocktail bar is an ideal meeting place for the international traveler. In-room dining with an optional “flight-friendly” menu is available. The hotel also has a health and fitness center, massage (by appointment), and indoor pool. Golf, tennis and IMAX Theater are all nearby.

Day 10 Livingstone: Royal Livingstone (B)
After breakfast make your own way to the International terminal for your flight to Livingstone. Arrive into Livingstone, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to the hotel. This evening enjoy a scheduled sundowner cruise. The Royal Livingstone is a 5 Star resort located within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. Every detail has been lovingly crafted to create the impression of being in another place in time, a time of romance and adventure. The bedrooms are two-story clusters inspired by the grand estate houses of a bygone era. Each cluster comprises 10 en-suite air-conditioned rooms with private balconies and terraces that offer spectacular views of the great river and beyond. Each room offers a quiet retreat from the ruggedness of Africa, with large shaded verandas and open spaces cooled by swirling fans and tall shutters. DAY VISITOR CENTER: Located near the main road and in close proximity of the Zambezi Sun (sister property to The Royal Livingstone), this facility caters for day visitors to the Falls. The center provides access to quick and easy booking for adventure activities such as white water rafting and bungee jumping. The less adventurous might like to choose from sundowner cruises, game drives, bird watching and cycling safaris.

Day 11 Livingstone: Royal Livingstone (BL)
This morning you will be met by your guide for a private tour “Mists of time” which includes a private tour of the Falls, a tour of Livingstone town and its history and the Ebenezer Children’s Home & Mukuni Village. Visit to Ebenezer Children’s Home and School. HIV and Aids pose the single largest threat to development in Sub Saharan Africa. It is calculated that 30% of Adult people living in this region are currently infected and the biggest challenge is copping with the number of orphans that are left behind. Ebenezer Child Care is an inspirational place of hope where a handful of dedicated people are working heroically to make a difference. You will drive to the orphanage where we will be met by Mrs. Chapatti one of the founder of Ebenezer Trust. She will take us on a tour of the establishment and give us an overview of the work of the Trust. We will then go down to the school, which is at a different location, where we will meet the children and their teachers and have a tour of the school.

Day 12 Chobe National Park: Chobe Chilwero Lodge (BLD)
After breakfast you will be driven to the airport for your flight via light aircraft to Kasane Airport where you will be met and driven to Chobe Chilwero Lodge. Enjoy an afternoon of game viewing. The charm of the Chobe...its magnificent river; its floodplains filled with grazing herds of big game. In the local language “Chilwero” means place of high view, an apt name for a camp whose canvas, glass & timber bungalows look out over lush flood plains ands river islands to Namibia on the horizon. You will enjoy creature comforts - elegantly appointed accommodations, silver service, gourmet meals and fine wines. Relax in the luxurious thatched cottages, with en-suite, sunken handcrafted baths, indoor and outdoor showers, private gardens and terraces overlooking the magnificent Chobe River. Game activities at are scheduled flexibly, according to the whims of guests and the changing habits of the game. Enjoy game drives in open 4X4 vehicles, or join our acclaimed guides on a wondrous water safari. End each day with a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, followed by a sumptuous meal - a delicious, eclectic fusion of Western and African cuisine and delicacies and vintage wines and spirits. Indulge in-room spa treatments. Therapies range from a Clarins Ultimate Firming Facial to a Full Body Swedish Massage, to relax and invigorate in true African style.

Day 13 Chobe National Park: Chobe Chilwero Lodge (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of game viewing.

Day 14 Departure (B)
After a morning game drive and breakfast you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Livingstone and connecting flight to Johannesburg. Arrive into Johannesburg and connect to your South African Airways Flight to JFK.
