Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Depart the USA from your choice of gateway. FLY South African Airways to Johannesburg.

Day 2 Johannesburg Airport: Airport Sun Intercontinental
Arrive into Johannesburg, after clearing customs make your own way to the hotel.  Located 50 meters from the arrival and departure at Johannesburg International Airport.  The hotel has 109 luxury guest rooms, 26 executive rooms, 2 executive suites, and 1 room for the disabled, 69 non-smoking rooms & 5 inter-leading rooms.  Each room has air-conditioning, interactive TV System offering airline flight information, and satellite TV & pay movie channel.  Each room also has direct dial telephone, voice mail, wake up call, modem connection, cell phone re-charger, express checkout, coffee & tea maker, hairdryer, minibar, attached bathroom with a separate shower and a separate closet.  The hotel has a first class restaurant with an informal atmosphere, offering modern cuisine from breakfast through to late night a la carte dinning.  The cocktail bar is an ideal meeting place for the international traveler.  In-room dining with an optional “flight-friendly” menu is available.  The hotel also has a health and fitness center, massage (by appointment), and indoor pool.  Golf, tennis and IMAX Theater are all nearby.

Day 3 Hwange: Makalolo Plains (BLD)
After breakfast, make your way to the International Terminal.  FLY to Victoria Falls, where you will board your charter flight to Hwange.  Arrive into Hwange, where you will be met by a camp representative and escorted to the lodge.   Enjoy an afternoon game drive.  Hwange is vast: some one and a half million hectares of blond grassy plains punctuated with teak forests and thorny scrub.  Beneath its wide and endless skies variety exists in plenty.  Makalolo Plains, a classic tented safari camp, is sent in the tree line on the edge of the Samavundhla Pan in Hwange National Park.  The pan is frequented by a wide variety of game, including hundreds of elephant, especially in the dry season.  The camp consists of nine luxury tents with en suite facilities set on raised platforms, which are linked to the main lodge building by a raised teak walkway.  The main building overlooks the pan providing the perfect setting for sundowners sipped against a backdrop of burning sunsets, and five star candle-lit meals.  The decor is classically simple and unobtrusive.  The camp has been constructed with the primary objective of being environmentally friendly - all water and lights are solar powered.  Not far from Makalolo Plains is Little Makalolo and exclusive tented camp for eight guests.

Day 4 Hwange: Makalolo Plains (BLD)
Spend the days and evenings viewing the animals at the nearby natural watering hole and on day game drives in the national park.  Night spotlight game drives are taken on the private estate with professional guides.

Day 5 Hwange: Makalolo Plains (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of activities.

Day 6 Mana Pools: Ruckomechi Camp (BLD)
Enjoy a morning game drive and breakfast, fly via scheduled charter flight to Mana Pools.  Arrive into the Mana Pools airstrip, where you will be met by a camp representative and driven to the camp.  Enjoy an afternoon game drive.  On the western boundary of the Mana Pools National Park, nestled in a large grove of Acacia and Mahogany trees, Ruckomechi Camp overlooks the Zambezi River with a superb view of the mountains of Africa's Great Rift Valley in the distance.   The camp accommodates guests in 7 thatched chalets, with en-suite bathroom that includes a shower, toilet and basin. There is a honeymoon suite that overlooks the Zambezi River, as well as one of the camp's favourite facilities: an outdoor "bath with a view"! The central dining, pub and lounge area is under cool thatch on the river's edge, facing the escarpment.  Wildlife is excellent in the area, and Kudu, zebra, impala and waterbuck can be seen on the surrounding plains, and elephant take advantage of the plentiful Albida (Ana) trees in the area. Predators including lion, wild dog, leopard, and cheetah, are often sighted, and large concentrations of buffalo can be found along the river's edges. Bird watching tends to be very good, with the river attracting large numbers of waterbirds.

Day 7 Mana Pools: Ruckomechi Camp (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of activities.  Ruckomechi offers diverse game activities, including wildlife-viewing drives in 4x4 vehicles, boats, canoes, and fishing. Daily nature walks are available with a professional guide.

Day 8 Mana Pools: Ruckomechi Camp (BLD)
Enjoy a full day of activities.

Day 9 Victoria Falls: Victoria Falls Hotel (B)
After a morning game drive and breakfast you will be driven to the airstrip for your flight to Victoria Falls. Arrive into Victoria Falls, where you will be met by an AfricaTours representative and escorted to the hotel. Hotel has earned international acclaim with its Edwardian elegance, charm and tranquil atmosphere. Situated in acres of private garden, the hotel's 141 rooms are elegantly appointed, cool and comfortable. The choice of activities is as wide as it is exciting. Whilst the breathtaking Falls and its tropical rainforest are only a short walk along the hotel private access path.

Day 10 Victoria Falls: Victoria Falls Hotel (B)
This morning enjoy a private guided tour of the Falls. One of the seven natural wonders of the world the Victoria Falls is a truly spectacular sight. On your guided tour, of the Zimbabwe side, of the Falls you will have the opportunity to experience its awesome unspoilt grandeur as your guide explains how this 150-million-year-old phenomenon was created. In the afternoon enjoy the amenities offered at the hotel. The Victoria Falls Hotel offers guided walks down the hotel Garden Path to the Rain Forest. Guided Historical Tours of The Victoria Falls Hotel. Guide shopping trips to the local craft market. Each evening a snack platter is served on the terrace between 5 – 7 pm.

Day 11 Departure (B)
After a morning at leisure, transfer to the airport for your flight to
Johannesburg and connecting South African Airways Flight to JFK.
