Mana Pools is one of the best game viewing areas in Africa and there is no better way to experience the diverse and abundant game in the area than in a canoe or walking along the river.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Mana Pools: Mobile Camp Site (LD)
Fly from Victoria Falls to Mana Pools airstrip, where you will be met by your guide who will be with you for the next four days to interpret signs, identify birds and their calls, explain interesting vegetation, walk you safely up to mammals large and small, and endeavor to give you a memorable and educational wildlife experience.  The guide will carry a daypack with cool drink, water and First Aid equipment.  The approximate distance covered daily is 12 kms (5.5 miles) between camps, so it is an easy walk.  All bedding clothing, food, cooking utensils etc will be canoed ahead to each evening’s overnight site by porters.  At no time will you need to carry a backpack, but is you wish to carry a backpack this can be arranged.  From Mana strip your armed guide will lead you down an ancient well used by elephant trail through the dense Jesse Bush to a water hole for lunch.  You leave the Jesse Bush and walk through a tall Mopane forest, which brings you to the edge of the floodplain.  The Mana Pools floodplain teams with many species of wildlife.  Your next four days will be spent exploring this productive area.  Around sunset you will arrive at the Mbera river mouth to spend your first night on the banks of the Zambezi, overlooking the Zambia escarpment which towers some 2000 feet above the river.  The tents that you will be sleeping in have large windows all around and gauze windows in the roof for stargazing.

Day 2 Mana Pools: Mobile Camp Site (BLD)
At dawn, tea, coffee, biscuits, cereal, and toast before setting off into the heart of the wilderness area.  This whole area has been set aside by the department of National Parks and is devoid of roads or signs of human interference.  This day will be spent walking and sitting at waterholes.  This area has a good elephant population and lion are almost always encountered.  Other animals that you will walk with are buffalo, waterbuck, impala, baboon, warthog, kudu, eland, and zebra.  The camp for the night will be reached at noon where lunch and iced drinks will be waiting.  After a rest and afternoon walk to explore the area surrounding the new camp.  For those who do not wish to walk in the afternoon, there is always game and birds to watch around each camp.  The evening will be spent near the mouth of the Nyamatusi Channel on the banks of the Zambezi.

Day 3 Mana Pools: Mobile Camp Site (BLD)
At dawn depart and enjoy sunrise through the Mopane Woodland.  The floodplain has very little undergrowth, which ensures good visibility for spotting game, and almost permanent canopy of shady trees, which makes walking pleasant throughout the day.  At noon you will arrive in the Chikwenya floodplain which is the most scenic and home to more animals than anywhere else in this National Park.  The evening is spent on the banks of the Zambezi looking across at Chikwenya Island.

Day 4 Departure (B)
The Chikwenya Floodplain is the highlight and a satisfying area to end in.  After a walk and breakfast you will follow the Sapi Riverine forest then cross the dry riverbed and walk through a small section of Jesse bush to the Chikwenya airstrip for your flight to Victoria Falls.
